It is a normal thing for us to feel stressed out whenever we are trying to push ourselves to achieve hard tasks. Stress is the natural reaction that our body emits, perhaps as a way to letting us know that it is about time we slow down and take a break. Sadly most of us do not know when to stop and so we experience some of the negative effects of stress. It is therefore a necessity that we learn the natural stress relief activities that can help us control it.
There are a few repeating life occurrences that we just have to deal with whether it is related to our jobs or our families. There are deadlines we need to meet. There are personal problems and conflicts we need to fix.
Disturbance of the normal bodily functions is the primary consequence of stress. It impacts the body?s ability to perform and quickens the aging process. The general negative effects of stress on the body are:
Heart Disease and Stroke ? Stress affects the heart and the circulatory system. It causes increased heartbeat rate and restriction of the arteries. Cardiac occurrences such as heart attack may result from these actions over time.
Gastrointestinal Conditions ? Who would have thought that stress can also lead to ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases, and irritable bowel syndrome? The fact is it does and those are the worst conditions. The milder side effects may include constipation, diarrhea, or nausea.
Digestive System Syndromes ? Increased acidity, stomach upsets and poor digestion are the activities of a digestive system interfered with stress.
Poor Immune System ? When you are suffering from stress your body?s ability to fight off sickness is also compromised.
Weight gain and Weight Loss ? Stress disrupts eating habits too. Every person has a different way of coping with stress. Some eat more than they could chew when stressed out, thus weight gain. Although, increased appetite is said to be emotionally motivated, experts say the stress hormone ?cortisol? is in action of increasing abdominal fat during stressful times. Some people turn to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia which initiates weight loss.
Sleep Problems ? Sleep deprivation comes from worrying about all the problems anyone is confronted with. People hounded by stress are unable to relax mentally and physically prodding them to lose valuable hours of sleep. As they stay awake, their bodies and minds gain even more stress.
Obesity or Any Weight Gain ? Most of us fight off stress by eating the foods that we love to eat. We also do that when we are feeling depressed. But the problem lies when what we eat are the so called comfort foods which are very high in calories and often are lacking in the essential nutrients which are body needs to function well. And add to that the fact that we do not just eat a single serving. Sometimes we go for more than three servings which can really contribute to our weight gain.
Sleeping Disorders ? When we are busy thinking of other things, often of our problems, not only are we feeling stressed out but we are also losing valuable sleep. And this is not healthy. While it is not possible to sleep for 8 straight hours, at least do not forget to take a nap or any break from your work.
Stress robs people of the ability to enjoy life because of its consequences which limit the quantity and quality of time that we spend with our loved ones. The negative effects of stress, although inevitable, are manageable by following some stress management activities which can alleviate stress.
