Yahoo! News is gathering brief first-person accounts, photos and video from the severe winter weather in the northeastern United States. Here's one resident's story.
FIRST PERSON | HARLEM, N.Y. -- The wintry mix hit the city around 7 a.m. Snow, sleet, and rain filled the air. It was not windy, but I knew the wind would get stronger as the day progress. Maintenance from my building worked early. They coated the sidewalk with salt and plowed the snow. As I walked down East Harlem, I saw some of my neighbors rushed to Pathmark Harlem to stack up on goods and supplies.
Cars and trucks moved gradually up and down the street. People packed public buses and rushed down the subway. I heard many New Yorkers prayed that this blizzard do not be too brutal; some have not recovered from Hurricane Sandy.
