When you work for someone, your work is scheduled according to your employer's needs and deadlines. You've got to do it, or you're out of a job. You are held accountable. You learn how to create the work habits necessary to please your employer, including whatever hours they require you to be there.
But, when you are working online from home, there is no one you need to answer to; it's all you. This makes it easier to make excuses for not getting things done, and to get lazy. Because of this, for the most part, internet marketers fail while they're creating their online businesses from home. Lack of discipline and motivation make it impossible to be successful. Many of them eventually give up, stating that working online is a scam. Most fail because they don't manage their time properly and they're not as productive as they may be if they were working for someone besides themselves.
This isn't just for online businesses, of course. Anything we would like to build in our lives, we need to put in the time; it's not just going to create itself. From any type of business, online, or not, to hobbies such as playing an instrument. It's takes time to learn and/or do the work it takes.
Take a look at your daily schedule for a week. If you find you're not working enough, is there anything you can cut out? Is there any exercise routine that you can shorten? What do you do in your leisurely time; can you make more time for work in that time? Instead of watching TV, can you use that hour or so to work on your business?
When you take a look at one week of your life, and jot down what you do hour-to-hour every day of that week, you will most likely find that you can add many extra blocks of time to your work time. Some people really don't see how much time they waste until they do this exercise. We sometimes get caught up in routines and habits that we may not realize are unproductive until we do this. Don't get me wrong; leisure time, exercise and rest are important to be able to put full energy into your work when you are working. Just take a good look at it all, for yourself and your business.
Once you've cleared up some space for work, plan the next week. Enter the hours you will work into your calendar, and stick to it. Be accountable for you. If you need someone to help you be accountable, you can get an accountability partner or create a group of people that help each other stick to their goals. Eventually, the ball will start rolling, you'll be happy you put in the time, and you may just find you enjoy the hours you set aside for work. You may even find whenever you do whatever you do in your leisure time, you're able to enjoy it all more. And soon, you're online business will be expanding and you'll truly be living the lifestyle of your dreams.
