Following the continuing saga of those displaced by Hurricane Sandy on the east coast, fifty Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) one, two and three-bedroom manufactured homes have arrived at a staging area at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Ocean County, New Jersey. NorthJersey tells MHProNews FEMA and state officials are scouting area MHCs in one of the hardest hit areas of the storm for available sites. As of Dec. 7, FEMA has determined over 48,000 households are considered eligible for FEMA housing assistance in the state, 9,500 of them in Monmouth, Middlesex, and Ocean Counties in the east central part of the state. Unlike the thousands of trailers used in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast that caused health problems, these homes meet strict Housing and Urban Development (HUD) manufacturing standards. While MH cannot be sited near the original homes because they are in a flood plane, FEMA will pay for RV rentals with utility hookups on their properties.
