Golf tournament raises $100,000 for hospital

More than $100,000 was raised in support of medical professionals, patients, and a new prostate cancer surgical procedure through the annual Richmond Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament, said Natalie Meixner, president and CEO of the Richmond Hospital Foundation.

?It?s been a record-setting year for this tournament, and the support we?ve received has been phenomenal to push us over the $100,000 mark in support of Richmond Hospital,? Meixner said. ?The funds raised today will support the continued work of the Foundation to provide local medical teams with the latest technology to care for local patients.?

The Fund-A-Need segment of the tournament is dedicated to support purchasing new Minimally Invasive Surgical equipment to allow for a new prostate cancer procedure, laparoscopic radical prostatectomies, as well as selective renal cancer surgeries at Richmond Hospital. The older form of this prostate surgery requires retractors and parting of the abdominal wall for the duration of an operation. When these new tools are fully funded, this procedure will only require a few small incisions resulting in less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and a rapid return to normal activities.

?With our highly trained urologists and hospital team we believe we can offer outstanding care,? said Dr. William Taylor, member of the Urology team at Richmond Hospital. ?Being able to offer this new level of care is critical to both our medical teams and patients.?

Selling out in record time over a month before the tournament date, Richmond Hospital Foundation also received the support of numerous new sponsors in support of the event, with many providing three-year commitments. Along with Presenting Sponsor River Green, Platinum Sponsor River Rock Casino Resort and Eagle Sponsor Macquarie Group, over a dozen other sponsorship levels sold out prior to the tournament.

?Based on the overwhelming support and demand from the community this year, we?re planning to increase the number of sponsorship opportunities for our 2013 tournament,? Meixner said. ?The support of donors and community leaders will allow residents to receive new treatments here in Richmond from the talented surgeons and healthcare team at our hospital.?

For 25 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised over $40-million to help purchase vital medical equipment, improve patient care programs, and upgrade facilities at Richmond Hospital.
