Start An Online Business With Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing a tool used by businesses to generate sales and at the same time share revenue with others who contributed to the successful sales. The programs tend to be free to join and all that is required of members is to complete offers; in order to, get paid. These come in the form of cash offers, surveys, gifts and referring other members to the program. The business pay others to review their website and hence encouraging others to register for membership. The whole aim is to gain sales.

Apart from referral strategy, they use other ways of getting traffic to their site. These include email marketing, search engine marketing, and display advertising. One of the most dominant strategies; however, is to bring traffic from one website to another.

Signing up for membership is usually safe, fast and free on the Internet. Most are free and once registered they provide an option for upgrading the membership package or they can use the standard version. The upgrades are only options for more benefits and features, it is not compulsory to upgrade. Another way the word is spread about a website is by blogging about them or placing a link inside the blogs or website.

In the event that it is the first time developing a blog, find something that will grab the interest of readers and oneself. Select programs accordingly, a program that will compel persons to want to read further or even help spread the word. A program that is uninteresting blogging about is not worth the time. While blogging enter the link only twice or less.

The program does not need money invested initially but just some time and dedication. Investing in the program is completely left to the member but is usually not compulsory. If the affiliate program works then it is worth investing some additional funds, but if it is not the ideal niche then there is no obligation to continue using it. As a promoter the email campaigns must be ongoing and if persons return email be ready to respond promptly. Keep the blog updates going, if possible enter at least three times for the week or even twice.

Analyze when the business will officially launch. Never attempt this program until completely certain that there will be success. Getting excited over the program and then realizing that no planning was put into the program will result in failure and hence disappointment. Once ready to join the program get real persons to place feedback on the program giving it more legitimacy and credibility.

Be aware that not all of the programs are legitimate and have any intentions of building up their members and connections. In joining one of the programs avoid the hype advertisers and claims that after two clicks members will generate a six figure number. Many use these to get persons attention and after registering they must make a purchase to achieve success.

Members should avoid any affiliate program that compels persons after registering to purchase a product. The purpose of the program is to generate sales and for promoters to benefit.

Beyonce appears at MTV awards looking pregnant (omg!)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - R&B singer Beyonce let pictures tell the story of a baby on the way for her and rapper husband Jay-Z at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, appearing before photographers and outlining a baby bump under her long gown.

The singer appeared visibly pregnant on the red carpet at the widely-watched show where MTV gives out awards for best videos. Wearing a loose-fitting dress, she showed off her expanded waistline and used her hands to frame a baby bump. But she did not talk with reporters, leaving only eyewitness accounts and photographs for confirmation.

Beyonce, whose hits include "Beautiful Liar" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it), is vying for MTV's Best Female Video award with "Run the World (Girls)."

She and rapper Jay-Z began dating in 2002 and were married in April 2008. For years, her many fans and the media have speculated about whether and when they might have a baby. It appears they won't have to wait much longer.

Serena Williams: 'I don't think about' '09 tirade

(AP) ? Chuckling and rolling her eyes, Serena Williams dismissed questions Monday about her tirade at a line judge over a foot-fault call at the end of her loss in the 2009 U.S. Open semifinals.

The 29-year-old American is back at the Grand Slam tournament for the first time since that infamous outburst during a match against eventual champion Kim Clijsters. Williams missed last year's U.S. Open after having surgery on her right foot.

Williams played coy at first during a pre-tournament news conference Monday when she was asked what she remembers most from the way her last U.S. Open ended and how "that controversial episode" might have affected the public's perception of her.

"You mean in the singles or doubles?" Williams asked.

Then she added: "I just remember I lost, and that was that. I got really popular. A lot of people were telling me they thought I was super cool, that they never saw me so intense. So, yeah, it was awesome."

Asked whether she learned anything from what happened in 2009, Williams replied: "I don't know. I don't think about it. Are you still thinking about it?"

She rolled her eyes as she continued: "Oh, my God. That was, like, two years ago. This is, like, two years later."

During the Sept. 12, 2009, match at Flushing Meadows, Williams was two points from losing when she was called for a foot fault ? a call rarely, if ever, made at that stage of such a significant match. It resulted in a double-fault for Williams, moving Clijsters one point from victory.

Williams paused, retrieved a ball to serve again and then stopped. She stepped toward the lineswoman, screaming, cursing and shaking the ball at her. Williams was penalized a point and, because it happened to come on match point, the semifinal ended right there; Clijsters won 6-4, 7-5.

Williams, whose 13 Grand Slam singles titles include three from the U.S. Open, drew an immediate $10,000 fine from the U.S. Tennis Association and later a record $82,500 fine from the Grand Slam administrator.

She also faced a "probationary period" at Grand Slam tournaments in 2010 and 2011, and was told she could be suspended from the U.S. Open if she had another "major offense."

Clijsters, who won the 2005, 2009 and 2010 U.S. Opens, withdrew from the tournament because of a stomach muscle injury.

"It's sad that she's not here. But, you know, when you're injured, you're injured. There's nothing you can really do about it," Williams said. "Last year, I was injured, and there was nothing I could do about it."

The Major Negative Effects Of Stress | Self Improvement Blogs from ...

It is a normal thing for us to feel stressed out whenever we are trying to push ourselves to achieve hard tasks. Stress is the natural reaction that our body emits, perhaps as a way to letting us know that it is about time we slow down and take a break. Sadly most of us do not know when to stop and so we experience some of the negative effects of stress. It is therefore a necessity that we learn the natural stress relief activities that can help us control it.

There are a few repeating life occurrences that we just have to deal with whether it is related to our jobs or our families. There are deadlines we need to meet. There are personal problems and conflicts we need to fix.

Heart Disease and Stroke ? Stress affects the heart and the circulatory system. It causes increased heartbeat rate and restriction of the arteries. Cardiac occurrences such as heart attack may result from these actions over time.

Gastrointestinal Conditions ? Who would have thought that stress can also lead to ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases, and irritable bowel syndrome? The fact is it does and those are the worst conditions. The milder side effects may include constipation, diarrhea, or nausea.

Digestive System Syndromes ? Increased acidity, stomach upsets and poor digestion are the activities of a digestive system interfered with stress.

Poor Immune System ? When you are suffering from stress your body?s ability to fight off sickness is also compromised.

Weight gain and Weight Loss ? Stress disrupts eating habits too. Every person has a different way of coping with stress. Some eat more than they could chew when stressed out, thus weight gain. Although, increased appetite is said to be emotionally motivated, experts say the stress hormone ?cortisol? is in action of increasing abdominal fat during stressful times. Some people turn to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia which initiates weight loss.

Sleep Problems ? Sleep deprivation comes from worrying about all the problems anyone is confronted with. People hounded by stress are unable to relax mentally and physically prodding them to lose valuable hours of sleep. As they stay awake, their bodies and minds gain even more stress.

Obesity or Any Weight Gain ? Most of us fight off stress by eating the foods that we love to eat. We also do that when we are feeling depressed. But the problem lies when what we eat are the so called comfort foods which are very high in calories and often are lacking in the essential nutrients which are body needs to function well. And add to that the fact that we do not just eat a single serving. Sometimes we go for more than three servings which can really contribute to our weight gain.

Sleeping Disorders ? When we are busy thinking of other things, often of our problems, not only are we feeling stressed out but we are also losing valuable sleep. And this is not healthy. While it is not possible to sleep for 8 straight hours, at least do not forget to take a nap or any break from your work.

Stress robs people of the ability to enjoy life because of its consequences which limit the quantity and quality of time that we spend with our loved ones. The negative effects of stress, although inevitable, are manageable by following some stress management activities which can alleviate stress.

Fun Staycation Ideas - IADB - Internet Articles Database

With the cost of travel always on the rise, families are constantly searching for affordable and innovative ways to enjoy time together during the summer?including alternatives to the traditional ?summer vacation? model. The most common alternative, of course, is the staycation, an idea based on taking time off to spend together but not leaving your own town. The effect this can have on your budget is, of course, fairly obvious; there?s not gas or air fare to worry about, and not necessarily a hotel fee either, though some families choose to do the ?staycation? within local lodgings. The question, though, is how to make this experience a memorable one for you and your kids. Here are a few creative suggestions.

First, why not try engaging in a local activity that you generally don?t participate in?for example, a trip to the local ice chalet? Skating can be a terrific source of family fun, and most areas have an ice skating rink that is open year-round. Admission is usually relatively inexpensive, and it can provide hours of enjoyment?and physical activity! Or for something a little more on the intellectual or artistic side, try heading to a local art museum. Again, admission is usually relatively inexpensive, and it?s not only a great way to spend an afternoon?a rainy one, in particular?but it will provide stimulating conversation topics for the members of your family. When the trip is over, you can compare favorites and discuss the different cultures or techniques that you saw on display.

Additionally, you can probably think of some even more off-the-beaten-path ideas. For instance, some towns are the home to baseball spring training. Going to watch these training activities can be a great alternative to the huge crowds and high prices of official games. And if your town doesn?t have this option, maybe it does have a pond or marina somewhere where you and your family can enjoy fishing, wading, or simply a pleasant outdoor stroll.

The great thing about a staycation, though, is that you don?t necessarily have to seek out venues like these in order to have a good time. Really, you have everything you need for a great family staycation right under your own roof. For example, you could plan a family cooking now?a great way to encourage togetherness and get some tasty food! You could take to the backyard and host a tournament for croquet, or some other such backyard game; you could even invite your friends and neighbors. Of course, there?s always the tried and true standby?the family board game night. Or for those who prefer something closer to the cutting edge, how about a family video game night?

The possibilities are limitless. With some resourcefulness and creativity, there?s no reason why you can?t make your family staycation into one of the most memorable experiences you and your clan have ever shared together.

Food & Drink | Barbecue Tips For Beginners :: By Cherie Rasmussen ...

For most beginners, the talk of grills, smokers, pits, charcoal, and sauces can be more than just a bit daunting. But remember that ?the expert at anything was once a beginner?. So, if you want to make the move from beginner to expert at the barbecue, this summer is the best time to do it. Just take the plunge, and with a few handy tips, you?ll be doing your own fabulous cookout soon enough.

One of the first things you will need to get is a grill, and the first decision you will need to make is whether to buy a charcoal or a gas grill. The gas grill has convenience on their side, while the charcoal has taste. Also, the charcoal grill is all about slow cooking, so if you do not have the luxury of time, it may be a good idea to go with the gas grill.

Another thing you will need to keep in mind is the amount of space and the location available for the grilling. Apartment dwellers may find the smaller, portable grills easier to store, while people with larger yards and patios might want a larger, even built-in unit. Remember whichever grill you might buy, it is essential to read instructions very, very carefully.

Once you are done with the grill, you?ll have to think about the fuel. If using a charcoal grill, the quality of coals is extremely important. Once you have lighted the charcoal with lighter fluid, you will need another additional purchase of the fluid. Light the charcoal with long handled matches or lighters and make sure the coals are 89 percent ashed over before lighting. On the other hand, gas grills operate on propane or natural gas. Most local service stations sell propane, but natural gas is available only with the gas company.

Other accessories you will need to have are the thermometer, a timer, long handled matches and utensils and a wire brush for cleaning the grate.

Coming to the food, pick simpler foods when you are starting out. Take the help of a cookbook. Before putting the food on the grill, thaw it to room temperature. Remember to grill the food on both sides. Use a long handled fork or spatula to flip the food. Use the thermometer to check whether the food is done or not.

Keep other safety norms in mind. Never keep kids unattended around the grill. Make sure you are cooking in the outdoors and on a concrete or a flame retardant surface. Last of all, do not use the same dishes to carry raw meat and cooked meat so as to prevent cross-contamination.

Like the barbecue itself, the journey of the tandoor continues unabated, with Pakistani and Indian restaurants serving up tandoori delicacies to countless guests all over the world. The tandoori repertoire has gone on to include all kinds of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and even fruits and cheeses and its popularity continues to increase manifold everyday.

So get the grill going, get the kids into the yard, and enjoy your time with the family!

?Barbecue Aprons
A great many Americans would probably agree with William Geist when he said, ?I am a man. Men cook outside? That?s the way it is and always has been, since the first settlers of Levittown. That outdoor grilling is a manly pursuit has long been without question. If this wasn?t firmly understood, you?d never get men to put on those aprons with pictures of dancing wienies and things on the front?? So men love to cook outdoors, and because outdoor grilling is the accepted manly occupation, it?s...

?Styles of Barbecue
To the purist, the barbecue is ?the method of cooking tougher meats very, very slowly at low temperatures with the heat source away from the food.? Roughly translated, this amounts to meat cooked at slow temperatures in the indirect heat of wood coals. To the average American, however, a barbecue is anything coked outdoors, mostly on a grill. There is much more to the barbecue than simply taking the grill out on a summer day. In fact, if you want to know more about the American barbecue...

?America s Best Barbecues
The barbecue has many avatars ? from the summer backyard party to the fierce competitions held at national and international levels involving thousands of people. It is in these competitions that pitmasters are pitted against each other to turn out the best barbecue, and attendees get to sample some of the fare. The festivals are also host to allied activities, mostly music, and sales of products related to barbecues. The most famous American barbecue competitions are Jack Daniel?s World...

?The History of Barbecue
Every Fourth of July weekend, as perhaps almost every weekend in the summer, millions of Americans are seen huddling around barbecue pits and grills to create those smoky meats that the world loves. The barbecue is as quintessentially American as it gets but the origins of this delicacy are hard to find. No one is quite sure where the term ?barbecue? originated. Most people believe that the Spanish, on landing on the Caribbean, used the term ?barbacoa? to refer to the local inhabitants? method...

?Barbecue Equipment
All of us love a good summer barbecue, but a good many of us are daunted by the thought of organizing all the equipment required for this classic American tradition. While barbecue equipment really encompasses a whole range of tools and pieces of equipment, it is not impossible to find everything you need for a barbecue in your house, or in a store near you. The very first and most indispensable item, of course, is the grill. You can pick either the charcoal or the gas grill. Gas fueled grills...

?Types of Barbecue Sauce
There are probably as many types of barbecue sauce as there are spices and herbs you can use for flavor; so making lists is a losing proposition. A barbecue sauce is basically a mix of vinegar, tomatoes, garlic and other limitless condiments laced to take the sauce from the sweet to the mustardy to the chilli. While the sauce is open to experimentation in the hands of individuals and packaged food manufacturers, it is impossible to ignore the fact that there has been the evolution of a regional...

?Barbecue and Food Safety
From being a summer activity shared by family and friends, the barbecue is now rapidly becoming a year long activity. Cooking in the outdoors has its share of delights; it comes with a set of hazards as well, especially those linked with food contamination. As the barbecues grow in number and frequency, it is become all the more important to follow food safety norms while enjoying the barbecue. When shopping for barbecue supplies, buy cold meat and poultry last, before checkout. Keep these...

?The Non Meat Barbecue

?Barbecues in Oceania
For all those who thought that barbecuing was an essentially American pastime, and indeed tradition, here is some news. Barbecues are actually a time honored cooking method, as old perhaps, as the discovery of fire. Almost all cultures all over the world have retained part of this tradition and practice it in some manner to date. In Oceania for instance, barbecuing is popular in the Australasian, Melanesian, Micronesian, and Polynesian islands. Every country has its own tradition but some of...

So if you are going to wear the patriotic spirit this Fourth of July, you will need to plan early to get it...

Nicki Minaj, Cee Lo, Tilapia: VMA 'Experts' Weigh In!

Dick Bagwell and Vincent Twice -- who may or may not be in Cobra Starship -- sound off on 2011 nominees.

In addition to looking a whole lot like Cobra Starship's Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez, world-renowned journalists Dick Bagwell and Vincent Twice are also the go-to guys for hot scoops and slightly unnerving personal revelations. So it makes sense that they'd be in Los Angeles this week: After all, it's the location of the 2011 Video Music Awards. After a few hours spent marinating in the SoCal sun, boy, do the revelations get personal.

Earlier this week, as Cobra Starship were rehearsing for their VMA Pre-Show performance, MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with the dynamic duo to get their take on the field of nominees for the big show. Much like our previous encounters, Bagwell and Twice had an awful lot to say.

For example, both are beyond excited to see what Lady Gaga will do in her VMA-opening number ("If I could put my money on it, I'm gonna bet she's gonna be walking out in somebody else's skin!" Twice enthused), and both can't wait to see who takes home the Moonman for Best Male Video (Bagwell is partial to Cee Lo Green's "F--- You," since "[It's] how my ex-wife Teresa says good morning to me!").

And while they seemed mystified by most of the VMA noms -- in response to Nicki Minaj's Best Female Video nod for "Super Bass," Bagwell let it be known that he's "more of a tilapia fan," and Twice was convinced that not only were the Foo Fighters Asian, but their Best Rock Video-nominated "Walk" clip was actually spelled "Wok" — they both agreed on a favorite in the night's biggest category, Video of the Year.

"I'm going to have to go with [Tyler, the Creator's] 'Yonkers,' " Bagwell enthused. "I once dated a gal who lived up there whose [censored for your protection]. I miss you, Cheyenne. Give me a buzz sometime."

You know what? Perhaps it's best if you just watch it all for yourself. Check out the video above for Bagwell and Twice on the 2011 Video Music Awards. View at your own peril.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Cano, Martin, Granderson hit slams, Yanks romp (AP)

NEW YORK ? In nearly a century of storied slugging, the Bronx Bombers had never put on a show quite like this. Nobody had, in fact.

The New York Yankees became the first team in major league history to hit three grand slams in a game, with Robinson Cano, Russell Martin and Curtis Granderson connecting Thursday in a wet, wild 22-9 romp over the Oakland Athletics.

"I'm surprised it hadn't been done before with all the great teams and great individual hitters that have come throughout the course of the game," Granderson said.

On a dreary afternoon, some fans headed home with the Yankees trailing 7-1 after three innings and rain still falling in a game that began after an 89-minute delay.

Turns out they missed the Yankees coming home ? over and over and over.

Cano began the barrage with his slam in the fifth, a clean shot into the lower deck in right field off starter Rich Harden that made it 7-6.

Martin connected in the sixth off Fautino De Los Santos (2-1), a fly that barely made it over the auxiliary scoreboard in right for a 10-7 lead.

Granderson took his turn in the eighth, launching a no-doubt drive into New York's right-center field bullpen with two outs off Bruce Billings.

With MLB in its 136th year and approaching its 200,000th regular-season game next month, the Yankees knew it was a slammin' day. Not until they saw a note posted on the video board about the three slams, however, did they realize exactly what they'd achieved.

"You're not going to see it again, probably," said captain Derek Jeter, who batted a whopping four times with the bases loaded and drove in one run. "You can't explain it."

Martin homered twice and doubled, setting career highs with five hits and six RBIs. Cano and Granderson each drove in five runs as the Yankees pulled off their biggest comeback win since 2006 and avoided a three-game sweep.

"Definitely cool. It was fun to be part of it," Martin said. "When there's nowhere to put them, they have to throw strikes."

"This game has been played for a long time. Pretty much everything has already happened. I'm waiting to see who hits four," he added.

Said Granderson: "There are so many players that have played. There's a few times I've been one of a few or the first guy this season or something like that. But the fact that we as a team have done something that all the teams that have ever played this game have never done before, especially all the offenses ... it kind of speaks to what this offense is."

Billings watched Granderson's shot sail.

"I was looking at it, hoping that it was not going to go out," he said. "I'm not thinking about trying to give up another grand slam."

The 22 runs marked the most allowed by the Athletics since 1955, when they were based in Philadelphia and lost 29-6 to the Chicago White Sox.

"It only counts as one, but it was definitely embarrassing," Oakland interim manager Bob Melvin said. "We got the lead early and just weren't able to hold it. It just got out of hand."

The Yankees also did something special with their gloves.

Five-time All-Star catcher Jorge Posada made his first career appearance at second base and had the final play, fielding a grounder and firing a one-hop throw that knocked over first baseman Nick Swisher and left him laughing as he caught it.

"I threw it too hard. I got super excited," said Posada, long ago a second baseman in the minors. "That tells you right there why they moved me behind the plate."

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Posada began hounding him in the eighth inning.

"I think at this point it was 16-8 and I was going to put Russell at second. Jorge went and got his mitt and started telling me, 'I'll go to second, I'll go to second,'" Girardi said.

"Everything that Jorge has done for this organization, the numbers he's put up and the year that he's been through this year, it was just hard to say no," he said.

Funny, the Yankees had their chances to hit even more slams.

They came to bat a startling 16 times with the bases loaded, going 6 for 13 with two walks and a sacrifice fly. Jeter grounded out twice, struck out and walked in his chances.

"I don't know if I've ever heard of a stat of a guy being up four times with the bases loaded," Girardi said.

Jeter did get three hits and briefly boosted his average to .300. Quite a climb from that July day that began with him mired at .257 and ended with him getting his 3,000th career hit.

Granderson's slam gave him 103 RBIs. The Yankees had hit two slams in a game three times, but never at home. They lead the majors with eight slams this year.

The Yankees scored six times in the seventh, helped by seven walks in the inning. They added six more in the eighth, with Andruw Jones homering after Granderson's slam.

Overall it was the Yankees' highest-scoring game since they got 22 runs at Boston in 2000, and it tied the team record set in 1931 for most in a home game.

Cliff Pennington homered, doubled and drove in four runs for the A's. Scott Sizemore also homered.

Yet for all the combined 36 hits and 15 walks, this day seemed to turn on something much more elementary ? the weather.

Yankees fans weren't in a forgiving mood at the outset. They booed when a battered Phil Hughes walked off in the third inning and jeered when Pennington hit reliever Cory Wade's first pitch for a three-run homer that put the Athletics ahead 7-1.

But there was a big cheer when the sun poked through the clouds as the A's batted in the fourth. Between innings, the stadium sound crew played "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles.

Moments later, the Yankees bats came out, too.

Martin began New York's rally with a solo home run in the fourth. Cano lined his second slam of the season and sixth of his career the next inning.

Martin connected in the sixth and Granderson capped the grand outburst.

The last time the Yankees had hit two grand slams in a game was Sept. 14, 1999, when Bernie Williams and Paul O'Neill did it at Toronto.

This was the seventh time the A's franchise gave up at least two slams in a game, STATS LLC said. Detroit's Ryan Raburn and Brandon Inge did it last in 2009 and the first came in 1936, when Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees hit a pair at Philadelphia.

Boone Logan (4-2) got the win.

Alex Rodriguez returned to the Yankees' lineup after missing two games with a sprained left thumb. He had two hits and scored three runs.

NOTES: Jeter lined a leadoff triple in the first and scored ? he passed Rickey Henderson for 21st place on the career hits list with 3,056 and edged past Jimmie Foxx for 20th on the runs list with 1,752. ... Cano singled his first time up, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. ... A's catcher Anthony Recker made his big league debut and went 0 for 4, striking out three times and drawing a walk. ... The Yankees are scheduled to open a five-game, four-day series in Baltimore on Friday. A.J. Burnett (9-10, 4.96 ERA) is to oppose Baltimore's Tommy Hunter (2-2, 4.95). ... Gio Gonzalez (10-11, 3.24) is set to start Friday night for the A's at Fenway Park. He is 2-5 with a 5.31 ERA since the All-Star break. Tim Wakefield (6-5, 4.97) will make his sixth try for his 200th career win.

Ravens rally to beat Redskins 34-31 - Fantasy Sports

By David Ginsburg, AP Sports Writer

BALTIMORE (AP) ? Rex Grossman and John Beck each threw a touchdown pass in their duel to become the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins, who lost to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31 on Thursday night.

Tyrod Taylor threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Jones with 22 seconds left for the Ravens (2-1), a score set up by LaQuan Williams' 38-yard punt return.

Grossman started for the Redskins (2-1), and each quarterback alternatingly played two series before third-stringer Kellen Clemens entered in the fourth quarter.

Grossman went 8 for 15 for 112 yards, directed an 80-yard scoring drive and finished with a quarterback rating of 99.9.

Beck completed six of 10 passes for 108 yards with an interception for a 90.8 rating. He guided Washington on a 97-yard march against Baltimore's second-string defense for a 28-21 lead in the third quarter.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has said he won't name his starter until shortly before the Sept. 11 opener against the New York Giants. At this point, the competition appears to be close to even.

Joe Flacco threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns, Ray Rice ran for 72 yards and a score, and Anquan Boldin had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown for Baltimore. It was an impressive performance against a team that yielded a combined 10 points in wins over Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

But the Ravens' defense was not nearly as sharp.

``As a unit, we can do better,'' tackle Haloti Ngata said.

DeAngelo Hall ended Baltimore's first possession by intercepting a Flacco pass, breaking an arm tackle by the quarterback and sprinting to the left corner of the end zone for a 52-yard touchdown.

Grossman went 2 for 6 for 27 yards before Beck entered. His first pass was a 33-yard completion to Anthony Armstrong, who got behind Domonique Foxworth on the right sideline. Two plays later, Tim Hightower ran for a 37-yard touchdown for a 14-0 lead.

The Ravens were forced to punt on their next possession, but Lorenzo Alexander ran into kicker Sam Koch on a fourth-and-5. After Flacco connected with Boldin for a 30-yard completion on a third-and-15, Rice scored from the 3.

Baltimore pulled even with a 96-yard drive that was extended by a holding call against Washington safety Reed Doughty. Ed Dickson made a great grab for a 33-yard completion before Lee Evans hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass. Dickson and Evans are the replacements for Todd Heap and Derrick Mason, who were cut in a salary-cap purge.

Grossman put on an impressive performance before halftime. Starting at the Washington 20, he completed his first five passes for 61 yards, then missed three straight before connecting with Santana Moss in the right corner behind rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith. The 24-yard completion capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive.

Flacco threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Boldin at the start of the second half to make it 21-all.

Beck then tossed an interception from his own end zone. He made amends on the next possession, going 5 for 6 for 75 yards in a march that ended with a 13-yard TD pass to Terrence Austin.

Attracting Listeners to Your Podcast. | Business, Internet Marketing ...

If you?re an Internet marketer that is always on the lookout for new channels to relate to their audience and actually give them consistent value, then you need to start podcasting. While podcasting and broadcasting are almost the exact same thing, podcasts are delivered online. There is a lot of good content that you can deliver in various forms to your listeners online. The goal of the following article is to give you some good ideas on how to create a podcast that outshines the rest?.

Chunks Of Information: For the podcast to succeed, it needs to keep your listeners interested instead of boring them. A good way to do this is to create segments that are short and diverse, while you put some kind of an audio ?bumper? between each of your segments. It isn?t important what that is, it can be a whimsical trick or your own, some music or a different sound effects. Whatever you choose to do, by making your podcast chunky you?ll make it more fun and easy to follow. People do get bored listening to anything that is too long and tedious. You want offer your listeners something of value with your podcast and breaking it into chunks will enhance that value.

Get Organized and Don?t Ramble: It will not go over well with your audience if you aren?t prepared with your content for your podcast. If you want to avoid rambling in your podcast, then you need to get serious about getting organized. If you are planning to interview an expert, then make sure to have the questions ready in advance and also send them to the expert as well so you can both be prepared. If you are going to talk and not interview anyone, then be sure to take the time to plan out exactly what you are going to be talking about. You will want to make some notes and keep them near you so you can get to them quickly and easily if needed. For your podcast to be successful partly depends on how well prepared you are and that preparation will determine how well you do with the podcast.

Enhance With Music: There?s something about a podcast that intelligently uses music to soften the whole experience. While music can be important, it doesn?t mean that you should just download your favorite mp3 track to your podcast. Your podcast will seem more professional and polished if you add some soothing light background music. While the content of your podcast may be high quality, if you add in some background music, it gives the podcast a polished and professional sound that will give your listeners a pleasant experience that they will remember.

Making an effective podcast isn?t as hard as it sounds once you start to apply the tips given above and you understand the steps it takes and where you want to go.

Phillips: Music and art unite tonight during tattoo studio show ...

For something as innocuous as a little ink below the skin, tattoos are pretty much a public-relations nightmare.

The uphill battle tattoos face to widespread acceptance is thanks to cultural associations with all kinds of unsavory elements.

Yes, there's a bad-boy chic element that wears tattoos -- pirates and musicians such as the late Amy Winehouse, for instance. Unfortunately, so did Holocaust victims and prisoners in Russian gulags, which doesn't exactly present an image of wholesome savoriness.

Nevertheless, tattoos are in little danger of disappearing, if the six-year run of TLC's "Miami Ink," "London Ink," "LA Ink" and "NY Ink" is any indication.

That lingering sense of counterculture-ness may be at the core of why many people get tattoos and why they remain taboo in some circles, but plenty of people see them as an emotionally significant, viable means of artistic expression.

The tricky part is convincing the public to accept them as such. Triple 7 Studio, a group of local tattooers, has been campaigning since last November to sway public perception through a series of themed art shows.

The Patten Parkway-based studio's second, and most recent, event "Til Death" was held in February when it was still located on M.L. King Boulevard next door to JJ's Bohemia.

The show featured works by more than a dozen artists -- including several tattooers -- interpreting the theme of love "Til Death (Do Us Part)."

I attended the event, and while it felt odd to tell my friends I needed to make a quick stop at a tattoo studio to see an art show, it ultimately felt no different than most galleries.

Many tattooers would say that feeling of similarity only makes sense, since they see the barrier between their work and traditional art forms as either porous or entirely nonexistent.

Triple 7 Studio artist Jennifer Edge said there is a similar lack of distinction between tattoos and music, which was the impetus behind choosing music as the theme of the third show.

"Everybody here is so influenced, artistically, by music," Edge said. "We all have bands we like to listen to. Art and music go together. It's like bread and water."

"Hit Me With Music" is free and will run 6-10 tonight. The show will feature about 50 pieces by 20 to 25 artists who have interpreted music and its significance to them. Prices will range from $35 to $1,700.

Even if someone leaves without purchasing a piece, however, just getting them in the door will be a victory, Edge said.

"We just want Chattanooga to see a tattoo shop be more," she said. "We're all well-rounded artists, and we want everyone else to get that, too."

For more information about the show, call Triple 7 Studio at 702-5401 or visit the artists at 29 Patten Parkway.

Heat wave challenges Muslims as Ramadan nears its end (Reuters)

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) ? When Shareef Ghaly is hammering nails into window frames under a scorching sun in the midst of a historic Texas heat wave, he's doing it for his career.

And Harvard linebacker Zakareya Aossey practices in the heat with no complaints, all for love of the game.

But a stronger conviction leads these two Muslims to suffer through it with no water or food as they near the end of the holy month of Ramadan in one of the hottest U.S. summers on record, when the days stretch past 13 hours and regularly top 100 degrees.

"If this continues, I'm going to have to move somewhere cooler," said a chuckling Ghaly, who owns Diamondback Renovations and Painting in Austin.

The Muslim month of fasting, a time for believers to atone for sins, refocus their faith and get closer to God, ends next week. Millions of Muslims across the world abstain from food and drink during the daylight hours as ordered by their faith.

They also try to avoid anger, focusing on faith, humility, compassion and the plight of people so poor and needy that "they can't choose to break their fast," said Muna Hussaini, 32, an Austin mother and program manager in the tech industry.

"When I am fasting, life comes into perspective," Hussaini said. "I have to focus on getting through the day, living my life, and praying. Fasting humbles you into appreciating all you've been given and is a great way to become grounded, to know what life is really about."

Fasting Muslims will wake up before dawn, eat a healthy meal and hydrate. When the sun goes down, they break the fast and pray with their families or the community.

Ramadan, which began around August 2, is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and comes progressively earlier each calendar year. Next year, it will start in late July.

LONG DAYS

Younger people like Ghaly, 36, who started fasting at age 20, have never seen a Ramadan so hot and with such long fasting hours as this one. At first, he said, Ramadan fell in December, when the daylight lasted about 10 hours.

"By the time I got thirsty, it was time to break my fast," he said. "It was a piece of cake back then."

These days, he tries to schedule his outside jobs before Ramadan starts. This month, he and his crew had some brickwork and exterior windows to do. They keep wet towels nearby to cool off and set up canopies and tents when they can.

"Working outside around 1 or 2 p.m., you really start to get thirsty," he said, "It's like you're waiting for that minute where you break your fast, so you can get that first cup of water, which tastes incredible."

Aossey, 19, is thankful to be practicing in Boston for most of Ramadan this year, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

When he was in high school in Austin two years ago, Ramadan started later in August and the coaches supported his choice to fast.

"They understand that religion comes first before everything, and safety is first before everything," he said, adding they happily accommodated his needs.

"If that's sitting out of a certain activity or rescheduling workouts, or if I needed to leave a meeting to break my fast ... they were always open and helpful."

Those who have been through a few Ramadans said fasting in the heat was a challenge. In many Muslim countries, working hours are shortened during Ramadan, and employers often provide special meals for those who need to break their fast at work.

In the United States, such practices are not the norm, although many Muslims said their employers were often accommodating to their needs. Not fasting due to the heat, or for other reasons, was not an option for many.

"It's obligatory," said Bilqist Banoo, 57, who spent much of her life in Pakistan. "It's not even a question. It's required of you, and it's not easily forgiven."

DATES AND WATER

At a recent community break-the-fast dinner in Austin, known as an iftar, Muslim men and women sat, separated by gender, in the shade waiting for the sun to set.

Bottles of water sat in front of them, and they carried small Styrofoam plates with a tiny bit of food so as to break the fast gently -- a few chick peas, some fruit and a date, the latter of which is traditionally eaten to break the fast.

When the sun set at 8:14 p.m., the women ate their dates, and then uncapped their waters and drank deeply. They all went to pray in the mosque, before gathering for a larger meal of rice, lentils and goat curry.

By the time the long dinner line formed in the dark, the cooler holding the water bottles was completely empty. Hussaini went in search for more.

She joked that taking care of people's water needs was yet another act of charity that fit the spirit of Ramadan.

"This," she said with a laugh as she gathered the bottles in her arms, "is what you call the bonus round."

Some Texas Muslims say the challenge of fasting through long hot days brings them closer to the Prophet Muhammad, who they say sought out the most challenging days to fast.

"Sometimes, the more difficult the test, the stronger you become," said Junayd Gerald Oliver, 28.

Ayla Saeed, 8, of Austin chose to fast for a little while on a recent day because she had seen her parents do it. Her strategy was simple.

"I tried not to run that much," she said.

Russia orders extra tests before satellite launch (Reuters)

MOSCOW (Reuters) ? Russia will go ahead with the launch of a navigation satellite on Friday only after it has carried out additional safety checks following the crash of a supply craft, the Russian space agency said on Thursday.

An unmanned Progress spacecraft using a Soyuz booster rocket failed to reach orbit and burned up in the atmosphere shortly after launch on Wednesday. It had been carrying food and fuel to the International Space Station.

The GLONASS satellite, part of a navigation system competing with the U.S.-based Global Positioning System (GPS), is scheduled to be launched on Friday using a similar booster rocket.

"The final decision on the launch will be based on the results (of additional checks)," the RosKosmos space agency said in a statement.

Interfax news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying all Soyuz launches would be suspended. But RosKosmos spokesman Alexei Kuznetsov said: "All decisions will be made once the work of the emergency commission (investigating the crash) is complete."

Since the retirement of NASA's space shuttles last month, Soyuz rockets are the sole means to fly crew members to and from the International Space Station, a $100 billion project of 16 nations.

The next Soyuz launch heading to the International Space Station is scheduled for September 22.

Besides practice, gymnastics also requires physical

to learn from mistakes, absorb, and then try again. Play

Determination and perseverance in one of the trials of life,
both in business and in education. In collaboration with

In fact, as far as physically driven as gymnastics happens

Finally, and perhaps most clearly of all, there are
the fact that gymnastics is your child busy, as everyone

Book Review ? The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ...

If you read a good book, either for pleasure or book club suggestions, which is considered one of the first things to be done? You can ask a friend. But word of mouth is largely dependent on personal preferences. If you want to want a more reliable indicator, you'll find book reviews.

Assuming you're in a bookstore and a book in his hand. Inevitably, they turn to the bridge, where there are large parts of the opinion media. They are brilliant, of course, "Drawing from the Heart," "non-stop page turner," "important new voice in literature!"

It may even be a date or two well-known authors: "The data from the Heart", "Non-stop page turner" ? and so on!. The authors of most editors write positively about the new stamp on the list of industries. Some authors have admitted not read books are available for comment (hm) asked, but is willing to go hand in hand, because ? Well, that individuals high. I want the same treatment for their books.

Do not confuse this type of review book reviews authentic: what you see on the covers of a book publicity notes carefully by the editors of several events that may or may not be positive, to look away. Speaking of propaganda is to sell books, not to inform the reader.

Worse, the media, sometimes under the pressure to write rave reviews for its customers to advertisers, publishers of the offending books for review. It could be, although sometimes difficult relationships with publishers and authors nice, but not particularly useful for the reader.

When searching for a review of a good book, look who criticized the style of the book and its contents. A real review of the book considers the following:

Characters are the central characters compelling? Is the emotional and psychological complexity and act in accordance with motivation? Is there a one-dimensional and flat with a few details about his inner life?

The plot is predictable, and the story is a surprise when you least expect? Are there any exciting twists and turns? Events grow organically, of course? They are forced to feel manipulated. Is it finally wrap up loose ends? What a good, as it is trivial or employer? Or let the remaining issues, open to different interpretations?

Ideas, said that the book provides a look for ideas, perhaps the moral and ethical sense of kinship (family, romance or a friendship) offers? T interesting information or new perspectives?

The writing style is very strict, banal ? or more sentences written, even banal. Or is the writing feels fresh, but inspired? The writing is funny, smart?

Where can I find the reviews helpful? Are the best and most complete the major newspapers: The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, to name a few. Also look in magazines like Time, Newsweek, New Yorker, Vanity Fair and The Atlantic Monthly.

Visit the public library and dig through editions of newspapers and magazines. Even better, many libraries subscribe to online databases, full texts of articles in newspapers and magazines have.

You can also go online at home. But most newspapers and magazines require subscriptions in order to get your files, so you do not always have access to all articles, but sometimes you get lucky and the right to find them on Google.

You can also go to major customers in the major online booksellers Amazon and Barnes & Noble. But the feedback from the customers seem to be together and is very idiocentric. It can be useful, but it is not always effective.

Your best bet is to find a place to order online, you can rely on the website with an index value of titles leader and book reviews. Pay particular attention to those who have passed examinations, not only shreds of Publishers Weekly Journal, particularly Library and Library Journal. Libraries subscribe to these publications for review, because they are honest in their assessments of the book seems, after all, that libraries have not been paid.

Nothing is guaranteed, but I know where to find reliable reviews of the book, instead of the promotional notes, you can go far to ensure a highly recommended reading.
