Canadian consumer prices rose 0.5 per cent in the 12 months to January, as cheaper petrol kept downward pressure on inflation, the government statistics agency says.
The price of food purchased from stores, notably meat, eased in the month.
Rent and homeowners' replacement costs were up, while mortgage interest costs decreased, Statistics Canada said on Friday.
In addition to a year-over-year price decrease in petrol, the cost of purchasing a passenger vehicle dropped, it said.
Clothing and footwear prices also fell.
