BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

While some people will carry on with their "regular lives," many other will be dealing with their insurance company.

If you have damage to your home or business, it's time to gather your paperwork and make initial contact with your insurance agent.

And, don't worry about whether the damage you initially see is all of your damage.

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon said you still have time.

"If you make a claim and get a check for an amount that proves to be inadequate later because you didn't know about some of the damage that was present when you first filed your claim or you have additional expenses that come in after you get your first check, you can go back to your insurer, submit those additional expenses and get compensated for that all the way up to two years after the event," he explained.

And, if you think you're not getting the results you should from your insurance company, you can contact the state Department of Insurance for help.
